Thermal springs

Around 20 million years ago, powerful volcanic activity shaped the island of Lesvos, blessing it with natural thermal springs that continue to enchant visitors today. This geological phenomenon was the result of the African tectonic plate sinking beneath the Eurasian plate, causing molten rock to rise toward the surface and form the island’s impressive volcanoes — those of Vatoussa, Lepetymnos, Agra, Anemotia, and Mesotopos. Today, Lesvos’ thermal springs are scattered across the island, some close to the town of Mytilene and others hidden in peaceful countryside settings. Remarkably, one quarter of all thermal springs in Greece are found right here on Lesvos — inviting you to relax, rejuvenate, and connect with the island’s volcanic soul.
